Queen’s Contest


2.1       Contestants must be enrolled in High School or be eligible to be enrolled in High School.

2.2      Queens from previous years are not eligible to participate.

2.3      Contestants may be any girl involved in 4-H or FFA in Hays County.

2.4      There will be no limit to the number of contestants from an individual club.

2.5      Potential contestants must attend an informational meeting, with at least one parent, at the Hays County Extension Office.  Those contestants who do not attend will be disqualified from the contest.  Should issues arise, please contact the Superintendent.

2.6      The size of the Queen and her court will be determined by the number of contestants but the maximum size is 9 girls.


2.7      An application must be submitted to the contestant’s 4-H club leader, FFA advisor, FCCLA advisor, or county agent by October 3, 2016.  Applications may be downloaded from the HCLE website.  Applicants will be required to attend a mandatory meeting (date & time to be determined)

2.8      The resume’ will contain a description of activities and achievements in 4-H, FFA, FCCLA, civic, community, church, and school organizations including honors won and any leadership positions held.

2.9      Grade transcripts (not certified) must accompany all entries.

2.10     A 4×6 photograph of the contestant must accompany all entries

2.11     The resume’, grade transcript, and photograph must be placed in a sealed envelope which will only be opened by the judges.  The application must not be sealed.


2.12     Contestants will meet with the judges for approximately ten minutes.

2.13     Interviews will be conducted at a time and location to be determined.


2.14     The queen will reign for one year.  If she is unable to fulfill her responsibilities, the princess will reign in her absence.

2.15     Queen contestants are required to be present at all livestock show events including the auction for the following responsibilities:

  1.  Pass out ribbons at all events.
  2.  Pass out refreshments and assist the buyers at sale.
  3. Be in auction pictures.
  4. Be available for miscellaneous duties as assigned by the HCLE board.

2.16     Each contestant must wear their Queen’s Contestant Sash at all events unless participating as an exhibitor.


2.17     A contest committee will be formed each year and will consist of at least one HCLE board member and one to three volunteers.

2.18     Three judges will be selected, by the committee, from outside of Hays County prior to the contest.


2.19     The Queen will be announced at a luncheon with the time and location to be determined.  Appropriate show attire must be worn during the announcement.  No shorts, tank tops, flip flops, T-shirts, or bare midriffs are allowed.

2.20     The Hays County Livestock Exposition (HCLE) will give one $500.00 scholarship, in honor of Dr. Glen & Mary Lou Rydl to the Queen upon proof of enrollment in a college, university, or technical trade school.
